The Employee Engagement Support Specialist reports to the Workplace Culture and Development (WCD) Employee Engagement Specialist. This entry-level position provides developmental opportunities to prepare the incumbent for similar, full-time, permanent positions at DNR or other state agencies.
The Employee Engagement Support Specialist will support the Employee Engagement Specialist in developing, implementing, and facilitating aspects of employee engagement, internal communications, and outreach activities specifically targeted at retaining and informing employees at all levels of the agency. This position will assist in developing strategies to retain underrepresented employees and represent the agency in collaborative relationships with community partners and internal stakeholders. This position will also assist with developing communications for internal newsletters, email announcements, and retirement letters for employees.
The Workplace Culture and Development (WCD) Division offers key support to programs designed to grow and develop WA State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) employees and enhance the agency-wide culture utilizing a diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) focused lens to foster safe and respectful workplaces where employees can bring their authentic selves to work.
WCD’s cultural and developmental programs foster employee engagement and leadership development. These concepts work to attract and retain a workforce within DNR representative of the public we serve. WCD initiatives increase inclusion, belonging, and psychological safety, increase productivity, improve communication, and create a climate of innovation.
Responsibilities:
- Agency Internal Communications
- Writes first drafts of internal communication projects, including but not limited to, newsletters, emails, intranet content, and announcements.
- Review and assist in editing agency-wide communications by checking grammar, clarity, and form.
- Employee Engagement Support
- Work closely with the Employee Engagement Specialist to cultivate relationships with internal partners to collect and incorporate feedback into future projects and efforts.
- Assist with developing employee engagement events.
- Other Duties as Assigned and Professional Development
- Job Shadow with DNR’s Internal Communications and Communications & Outreach teams.
Required Qualifications:
- At least 6 months of education or experience with writing, design, and content creation.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
- Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
- Communicate effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines across multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing demands on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Independent self-starter who can self-educate as needed and adapt to new technologies.
- Ability to work as a team member, engaging with others using empathy and compassion, using healthy conflict resolution and communication.
