Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as a Medical Unit Specialist at the Northeast Florida State Hospital. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities, and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Primary Care Physician Services Coordinator in the management and coordination of medical appointment scheduling, follow up, and data entry for specialized medical consultations, procedures, and clinics.
- Daily operations include working independently with staff physicians, clinic physicians, external physicians, nurses, consultants, the Hospital Attorney’s office, Transportation, and Accounting Departments.
- Coordinates admissions and discharges to and from outside facilities for specialty services.
- Ensures all paperwork and orders are complete, including laboratory and x-ray results, if necessary.
- Arranges appropriate transportation and ensures notifications are made accordingly.
- Serves as liaison to consultant physicians and outside facilities.
- Independently handles all routine matters and notifies supervisor of situations requiring immediate attention.
- Arranges follow-up appointments and delivers consult recommendations to primary care physicians in a timely manner.
- Coordinates outside medical appointments to reduce controllable expenditures.
- Maintains patient data and performs independent data analysis.
- Responsible for maintaining and coordinating with external consultants for mammography services.
- Ensures all pertinent paperwork is complete and notifications are made.
- Requests resident mammogram reports and schedules follow-up diagnostic mammograms.
- Ensures data collection of employee satisfaction with services.
- Compiles and prepares weekly and monthly summary reports of scheduled appointments.
- Assists the Infection Control Department with assigned filing and data management.
- Assists and submits job orders for general maintenance and repairs of clinic equipment.
- Coordinates appointments, prepares purchase requisitions, and schedules follow-up appointments.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the mission, vision, values, and NEFSH operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Four years of clerical or hospital experience.
- College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required experience.
