Job Responsibilities:
- Provides psychological evaluation and psychotherapeutic services to medical patients and when appropriate significant others.
- Consults with physicians and nurses and makes recommendations for appropriate services.
- Functions as a clinical resource to members of multidisciplinary treatment teams.
- May provide recommendations for program development around issues of health psychology.
- May supervise doctoral and post-doctoral trainees in psychology.
- Patients may include adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations.
- Will see new onset stroke/TBI patients and those with new amputations.
- Trained to track recovery from traumatic brain injury with the Rancho Los Amigos Scale.
- Assess patients daily in cases of serious brain injuries.
- Interventions can range from reviewing coping skills and teaching new ones to working with nursing to assist with tracking sleep over a period of days.
- May call BHS outpatient and schedule a follow-up mental health appointment for the patient or family after discharge.
- Sometimes co-treating with the therapist to see what may be occurring and keeping the patient from making the expected progress.
REQUIRED:
- Doctoral degree with primary study in Clinical Psychology.
- Licensed as a psychologist.
- Completion of one (1) year supervised clinical internship.
- Must be CPR certified.
PREFERRED:
- Experience working with new onset stroke/TBI and those with new amputations.
