The Central Region Chief AP Site Lead will provide local leadership, management, and support for the Emergency Department(s) as assigned. The Central Region Chief AP will report directly to the system Chief AP for Emergency Medicine while working cooperatively with the local/regional ED Medical Director, Operations personnel, nursing staff, and other departments to provide emergency services for all patients who present to the ED.
In conjunction with the Chair of EM, system Chief AP of EM, and the local/regional ED Medical Director the Central Region Chief AP shall:
- Provide leadership, planning, organization, scheduling and assurance of staffing, coordination, and evaluation for ED activities for advanced practice staff.
- Develop workflow processes and departmental initiatives in collaboration with EM leadership.
- Supervise and evaluate advanced practitioners in clinical and assigned administrative duties, along with annual evaluations, FPPEs, and OPPEs within Emergency Medicine.
- When delegated, act as liaison with hospital administration and other clinical departments.
- Promote a collaborative, interdisciplinary ED leadership team.
- Ensure that departmental policies are known, understood, and implemented by the advanced practitioners.
- Participate in the education and training of newly hired APs with yearly evaluations subsequent to initial hire. When needed, arrange off-service procedural experience, and assure compliance with the required number of procedures for credentialing.
- Participate in the recruitment and retention of qualified advanced practitioners.
- Act as ambassador to patients and families while addressing grievances and complaints.
- Kronos management for payroll.
Education Functions:
- Directs and participates in continuing education of emergency medicine advanced practitioner, physician, ancillary and nursing staff.
- Participates by administrative oversight of the teaching and training of AP students rotating through Geisinger’s emergency departments.
- Maintains and updates his/her own expertise in the field through self-education via CME activity, and procedural skill sessions.
Quality:
- Collaborate with the ED leadership team and administration to ensure that departmental performance meets or exceeds standards described in the hospital bylaws, departmental policies, the PA DOH, the Joint Commission Manual of Accreditation, and in other appropriate local and national standards.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proven ability to work with others in a team environment.
- Demonstrates exceptional supervisory, leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrates knowledge and experience as a physician assistant or nurse practitioner in Emergency Medicine.
- Demonstrates maturity and initiative with an interest in change management and process improvement.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Board Certification as either a physician assistant or nurse practitioner and an active Pennsylvania State license required.
- Minimum of 5 years experience as an advanced practitioner with a minimum of 2 years experience in emergency medicine.
- Leadership and management experience preferred.
