At the TerraX Laboratory in Tuscaloosa, we process and prepare all archaeological artifacts our field crews find to the highest standard of care. Under the supervision of our Lab Director, Dr. Mark Donop, our lab personnel work to study and preserve cultural materials from ancient projectile points to twentieth-century cookware from over a dozen states.
Job Requirements:
- Lead the conservation, preservation, and curation preparation of the artifact collections for transfer to appropriate repositories.
- Assist in lab processing, such as artifact analysis, labeling, data entry, and reporting.
- Meet deadlines, maintain a schedule, and multi-task.
- Communicate effectively with lab personnel and others to ensure timely and accurate production of lab deliverables.
Qualifications:
- B.A. or B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Previous experience with laboratory work and curation.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and organize large quantities of artifacts, and prepare them for curation.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough and accurate research.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in the Cultural Resource Management (CRM) field.
- Experience completing detailed paperwork, maintaining precise and accurate records, and contributing to reports.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and any curation management software.
- Experience in any specialized method of analysis or curation.
Pay Range: Full-time, $18.00-$21.00/hour
