Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Assistant - Full Time - Nights. In this role, the successful candidate will provide quality, professional, cost-effective health care to all patients at LICH. Physician assistants (PA) practice medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician, fulfilling a broad range of medical services that would otherwise be provided by the physician. PAs provide care for in- and outpatients primarily in-house including the Emergency Department, Pre-Admission Testing, the operating room, Employee Health, and Psych Care.
Job Responsibilities:
- Introduce/identify self as a physician assistant
- Perform initial assessment/history and physical examination
- Order and interpret tests/results (lab, radiology, EKG, etc.) based on patient need
- Document care in the chart in accordance with Hospital policy & procedure
- Formulate and implement treatment plan
- Consult with physician when required based on patient's condition
- Reassess patients
- Order, apply, remove, and reapply restraints
- Provide emergency medical care including Code 64 management
- Triages patients—ED only
- Perform trauma assessment/reassessment (Trauma Team only)
- Legibly document in patient chart, departmental forms, and any other Hospital forms all pertinent patient information
- Document any patient or family education on the Hospital patient and family education form
- All orders and entries dated and timed
- Level of documentation matches severity of situation
- Results of tests ordered documented
- Procedure notes completed
- Follow-up/consultation with physician documented
- Verbal/telephone orders signed, dated, and timed by end of shift
- Billing forms completed fully and submitted—house only
- Discharge instructions written and given—ED only
- Explain procedure to patient/family
- Perform procedures following accepted standards of care—IVs, foley cath, NGT, CVL removal, etc.
- Assist in surgery—technique—OR credentialed only
- Perform CAT scan/MRI injections
- Demonstrate positive service excellence/customer satisfaction, positive attitude towards change, effective time management, positive communication skills, the ability to constructively give and accept feedback, and solid problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate the medical, technical, and personal skills to assess, reassess, & manage patients
- Know one's limitations and seek help if needed
- Demonstrate the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail
- Work as a team member in a multidisciplinary manner
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and techniques in the field by reading appropriate journals, books and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences, and the like
- Abide by all federal and state laws, rules, and regulations
- Answer pages immediately (unless busy) using name and title—house only
- Participate in performance assessment and improvement studies
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Graduate of a PA program accredited by The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, or its predecessor. Current NCCPA certification, Current New York State license as Registered Physician Assistant, Current BLS & ACLS documentation, Current Pediatric Life Support (PALS), Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) documentation. Requires the psychomotor skills, including walking, to perform examinations and procedures. The interpersonal and customer service skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, their family members, physicians, nursing, and other Hospital personnel when exchanging patient status, care, and treatment information. Requires the ability to recognize and address the psychosocial needs of patients and their families. The ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for approximately seventy-five percent of work time for responsibilities such as providing patient care, operating and monitoring equipment, and recording data in patient charts. The ability to walk and stand for approximately seventy-five percent of work time, and to lift, pull, push, and/or carry items such as equipment weighing up to twenty pounds or patients on stretchers for approximately twenty-five percent of work time when providing patient care.

The salary range for the role is $131,683.50 - $164,151.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
