Overview
Trains to become an Echo Cardiology Technologist. Learns to perform basic adult cardiac echocardiogram procedure to include 2-D, M-Mode, Doppler and 3-D LVEF Echocardiograms.
Responsibilities
- Learns to perform all basic adult cardiac echocardiogram procedures. Learns to distinguish between normal and abnormal cardiac findings.
- Learns to perform cardiac sonographer duties to meet departmental needs including recognizing arrhythmias and implications of specific cardiac and related diagnoses to obtain optimal studies.
- Learn to perform adult echoes on-call.
- Complete all course requirements and clinical rotations for the designated Adult Cardiac Ultrasound program. Maintain passing grades in all program courses including clinical competency evaluations.
- Participates in exercise stress pharmacologic stress echo training.
- Participates in weekly imaging conference presentation.
- Learns to facilitate patient flow within the section and maintains a pro-active approach in dealing with patient concerns.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Learns to identify and document equipment failures.
- Demonstrates professional behavior and comfort in a hospital setting.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
- One year of employment at DH-H or 6 months with supervisor approval.
- 2-year Allied Health degree or Bachelor’s degree with completion of Human Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology.
Required Licensure/Certifications
At the end of the training period, take and pass the Adult Echocardiography exam through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
