Being a Surgical Technologist (ST) is a physically demanding, mentally challenging, and incredibly rewarding professional role. It requires the ability to focus, problem solve, pay close attention to detail, have excellent listening and communication skills, and an underlying commitment to doing what is right for patient safety and well-being.
This 11-month training program is designed to prepare you for career opportunities in the surgical field and includes a general education component, which complements the comprehensive skills-based specialty training. Classroom theory and laboratory hands-on training is supplemented with clinical experiences to make up the curriculum of study.
Individuals who successfully complete the training program will become Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) and promoted into CST positions in the D-H Main Operating Rooms and Outpatient Surgery Center.
Responsibilities
Attributes of a Successful Surgical Technologist:
- A strong work ethic through reliability and dependability, time management skills, teamwork, and communication skills.
- The ability to work under pressure and stress, including the ability to keep composure and think critically.
- Flexibility and adaptability in the ever-changing environment of the OR.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Participation in the program selection process.
