JOB TITLE: Psych APRN and Director of Behavioral Health
JOB SUMMARY:
Nebraska Hematology and Oncology is located in Lincoln, Nebraska, and is searching for a full-time, highly skilled psychiatric APRN who is passionate about caring for oncology patients and improving their quality of life. The APRN would lead and direct a behavioral health program and evaluate the psychiatric care of hematology-oncology patients in ambulatory health services through diagnosing acute and chronic mental health illnesses, implementing a plan of care with pharmacological and non-pharmacological agents, and providing psychiatric-specific teaching and supportive counseling to patients, families, and groups. The APRN will also collaborate with provider colleagues in the psychiatric care and treatment of hematology-oncology and palliative care patients.
REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Full-time position: Monday through Friday. One day administrative.
- Lead and direct the Behavioral Health Program.
- Provide psychiatric care in an outpatient hematology-oncology setting.
- Knowledgeable in advanced health assessments and decision-making skill sets.
- Conduct comprehensive adult psychiatric assessments to diagnose mental health conditions.
- Perform physical examinations, specifically mental status examinations and others when appropriate.
- Formulate personalized treatment plans based on assessment findings and clinical judgment and modify them as needed to meet changing patient needs.
- Conduct evidence-based therapeutic interventions and regular follow-up appointments to assess patient progress.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications as appropriate.
- Monitor medication efficacy and side effects, making adjustments as needed.
- Provide psychiatric-specific teaching and supportive counseling to patients, families, and groups.
- Coordinate referrals to other healthcare professionals, support groups, counseling, and community agencies as needed.
- Evaluate patients for the need for a higher level of care.
- Accurately document patient visits in a concise and timely manner.
- Provide consultation to medical staff about psychiatric diagnosis and treatment and/or the need for psychiatric medication.
- Collaborate with therapists and psychologists.
- Collaborate care with the patient’s hematology-oncology, radiation, and/or palliative care teams and other health professionals to ensure that comprehensive care is offered.
- Stay current with developments in the field of psychiatry.
- Serve as a member of committees.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Master of Science in Nursing with a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specialization from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
- Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of nurse practitioner experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to lift 10 pounds for routine performance of essential functions.
- May be exposed to adverse indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, bloodborne pathogens, physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.) and chemical hazards.
