Description
Provides accurate, timely, and cost-effective laboratory testing of patient samples to aid in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Provides technical expertise to Providence Laboratory and other institutions.
LAB PROCEDURES: Performs technical laboratory procedures according to Providence, lab, and national standards. Works accurately and productively. Collects and prepares specimens, such as blood, body fluids and tissues according to established procedures and doctor's orders. Has a working knowledge in all phases of medical laboratory technology including phlebotomy, chemistry, serology, blood banking, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis and micro-biology. Responsible for record keeping procedures and laboratory send-out procedures. Schedules and processes urine drug screens.
DOCUMENTATION: Responsible for completing records and reports, and other statistical information for master files or database.
COMMUNICATION/TEAMWORK: Assists in organizing the activities of the Laboratory including policies and procedures, budget preparation, directing workflow and managing stocks and supplies. Uses positive interpersonal skills to educate/support lab customers and promote success of team members. Uses clear and concise verbal and written communication to communicate with staff and the public.
QUALITY CONTROL/QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: Participates in QC/QI for area of specialty and lab indicators. Takes corrective action to correct equipment malfunction or when testing deficiencies are noted.
SAFETY AND EDUCATION: Complies with lab and hospital safety procedures. Practices Body Substance Isolation. Completes education necessary to maintain licensure or certification required for job.
PROBLEM SOLVING/CRITICAL THINKING: Identifies real or potential situations or equipment failure, investigates and attempts to resolve within area of specialty or knowledge.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or other closely related field in the biological or chemical sciences.
- ASCP Certification as a National or International Medical Laboratory Scientist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist; or certification as a National or International Medical Technologist from AAB, AMT, or ASCP.
Position Details: Full-time, 1.0 FTE, Day shift, 4 10-hr shifts, 40 hours per week.
