The Speech Pathologist is competent in evaluating and treating children and adults with speech, language, cognitive, and dysphagia disorders. They act as consultants for medical and other professional groups in the hospital. The Speech Pathologist supervises and instructs student Speech Pathology Interns at St. Elizabeth, St. Joseph, and Boardman Hospitals. These duties are performed in a manner which demonstrates the Philosophy/Mission and Values of Mercy Health.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- 15% Supports collaboration, performance improvement processes, inter-disciplinary work teams, and partnership relationships with customers.
- 20% Diagnoses speech/language disorders by evaluating possible causes and administering and interpreting results of in-depth testing. Plan of Care is appropriate.
- 20% Treats speech/language impairments with functional articulatory disorders, stuttering, voice problems, delayed language, and organic disorders including cleft palate, cerebral palsy, aphasia, head injury, dysarthria, dysphagia, and impaired hearing.
- 15% Writes reports on diagnostic findings, therapy used, and progress made. These written reports as well as verbal reports are disseminated to physicians and other related professionals.
- 15% Receive CEUs to keep current on ideas and techniques in the field of Speech Pathology and Audiology.
- 15% May have some responsibilities in evaluating and providing feedback to the Student Interns and the University on the performance of the Interns.

Minimum Years and Type of Experience: Experience in pediatric and adult diagnostics and therapy. Dysphagia experience preferred.
