GENERAL DUTIES
- Performs supervisory and/or complex technical functions in laboratories in support of coursework.
- Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs equipment.
- Determines equipment requirements, prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisitions.
- Trains and supervises College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff.
- Manages set up, maintenance, and organization of student laboratories.
- Maintains safety and hygiene standards.
- Documents laboratory activities.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Department of Biology in the Division of Science at The City College of New York (CCNY) is seeking a Senior or Chief College Laboratory Technician (CLT).
The Senior or Chief CLT will join a team that manages the laboratory component of the department's courses. They will manage laboratory resources, including staff, equipment, supplies, living organisms, and budget. As needed, they will reallocate resources, which may include preparing and/or moving equipment, supplies, staff, and/or living organisms. They will communicate and interact regularly with the faculty, staff, and students in the CCNY Division of Science (DoS) and Biology Department to prepare and operate the laboratories for course instruction. They will work collaboratively with DoS and Biology Department CLTs, faculty, staff, and/or students to organize and prepare the resources, equipment, and personnel for biology laboratory courses in each academic term.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Senior College Laboratory Technician
High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate's degree may be substituted for two years' experience and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience. This position may also require the ability to supervise others.
Chief College Laboratory Technician
High School Diploma with a minimum of twelve years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years' experience, a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience, and a Master's degree in an area appropriate to the duties to be performed may be substituted for an additional one year's experience. This position requires a high level of technical expertise.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in biology or a related field of study.
- Previous experience supervising laboratory staff.
- Four years of experience managing laboratory courses at higher education institutions.
COMPENSATION
Commensurate with skills and experience.
Senior College Laboratory Technician: Salary Range: $70,501 - $81,246.
Chief College Laboratory Technician: Salary Range: $71,882 - $90,418.
