This position will involve supporting manufacturing operations for the Light Duty (LD) Production organization. LD Production consists of two primary process groups: slurry preparation and substrate coating. The Manufacturing Engineer supports daily operations to ensure safe, timely, cost effective, and high quality production output. The candidate will work with the Operations Group to optimize daily production.
Primary job responsibilities will include:
- Develop proficiency in the functionality and operation of LD Production equipment and process systems.
- Implement manufacturing safety, quality, and efficiency improvement projects (this will include design work, installations, coordination with maintenance/contract groups, utilization of BASF systems, management of change, etc.).
- Support and/or facilitate lean manufacturing, 5S, kaizen, and visual management activities in production areas for process improvement initiatives.
- Support Zero Incident Mindset (ZIM), Journey To Excellence (JTE), and Responsible Care Management Systems (RCMS).
- Become actively involved in site safety culture and processes to improve Operations awareness.
- Data tracking, organization, and development of new spreadsheets/databases/applications.
- Support day-to-day troubleshooting of mechanical and process-related issues, and work with internal colleagues, vendors and outside engineering groups to develop equipment improvements.
- Serve as maintenance liaison for supporting and leading equipment reliability initiatives as well as the reconciliation of day-to-day mechanical equipment issues.
- Support capital projects by serving as the primary Manufacturing Representative for LD Production. This will involve developing project scope documents, justifications, preliminary designs, and other activities outlined in our companies capital project implementation process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Required.
- 5+ years related process or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of production processes: preferably batch and coatings processes.
- Project management skills and process analysis that promotes productivity and process improvement.
- Exposure to lean six sigma and visual management principles is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- High level of proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Proficiency in Visual Basic for MS applications is a plus.
- Proficiency in SAP, MS Access, and AutoCAD is a plus.
- Ingenuity to creatively introduce new technologies, including process controls and computer systems, which improve operations and reduce plant costs.
