About the Cardiac Cath Lab department:
We’re seeking a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist to join our Cardiac Cath Lab team to support and treat patients with cardiac conditions. Working in collaboration with Cardiologists and other nurses, this individual is an essential part of our team – ensuring the safety and comfort of patients undergoing complex cardiovascular interventions, preparing patients for procedures, administering medications and monitoring their statuses.
Qualifications
- Experience:
- If RN, one (1) year of Critical Care, Emergency Services, Cath/EP Lab, or Special Procedures experience.
- If EMT-P, two (2) years of acute care hospital experience.
- If RTR, RRT, RCIS, RCES, CVT or VI one (1) year of experience.
- Certification:
- Registered Nurse (RN)-North Carolina Board of Nursing License; OR
- Registered Radiology Technologist (RTR) -ARRT Radiology; OR
- Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) credentialing/accreditation and/or Paramedic associate degree from an appropriately recognized Paramedic program; OR
- Technologist Registry; OR
- Respiratory Therapist-licensed by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB) AND Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as RRT; OR
- Registered Cardiac Invasive Specialist, Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist, Cardiovascular Tech, and Vascular Intervention-graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Program. If the Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CIS) is not a RN, RTR with CI or VI certification, he/she must obtain their Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist.
- Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing.
- Pass yearly Cardiac Dysrhythmias Test.

Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Assures care is provided to meet patient needs within clinical practice standards pre, intra and post Cardiac and Vascular procedures. Identifies patient learning needs and provides education to patient and/or family. Monitors EKG rhythms, hemodynamic waveforms and reports status changes to physician. Documents care delivery and any change in patient status pre, intra and post Cardiac and Vascular procedures. Collaborates with physicians and other disciplines to resolve identified patient needs. Functions in emergency situations. Clinically proficient to provide support/be a resource to all members of the care team in all areas of Radiology. Scrubs and assist physicians with diagnostic and interventional procedures. Sets-up sterile tables, prep patient, and maintain sterile technique throughout the procedure. Is an advocate for the patient. Ensures patient safety and comfort pre, intra and post Cardiac and Vascular procedures.
- Communication: Uses excellent customer relations skills. Uses effective and appropriate conflict resolution skills. Effectively communicates to all team members including physicians as needed. Collaborates with Manager or Educator to identify unit issues and educational needs.
- Leadership-Accountability: Facilitates teamwork on the unit and with other departments. Demonstrates willingness to be flexible as needed to meet the changing dynamics of the Cardiac and Vascular lab. Demonstrates the ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. Thinks critically through issues and problems on the team with the use of problem-solving skills. Assists in the development of Cardiac and Vascular Lab staff and provides support as needed. Functions as a preceptor.
- Radiation Safety: Practice radiation safety and protect patient, staff, and self. Must be able to wear lead aprons the majority of the day.
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS): Performs and reviews baseline patient assessment. Evaluates patient response to diagnostic or interventional maneuvers and medication during Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL) procedures. Provide patient care pre, intra and post procedure. Administers medication drug under the direction of a qualified physician. Only RNs and RCIS certified team members may administer medications.
