POSITION SUMMARY
The Admitting Registrar arranges for the efficient and orderly admissions of all patients while ensuring that patient information is collected and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures. Admitting Registrars interview incoming patients or representatives and enter information required for admission into the computer database, while also distributing appropriate information to ancillary departments. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide service appropriate to the age of the patients seen on his or her unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients' status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the service needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures and skills checklist.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience with medical terminology and billing preferred, either in a hospital or physician office. Experience working with physician orders and order entry is a plus.
- Must have a professional appearance, good communication skills, a friendly personality, and a positive attitude. Must follow oral and written instructions and be able to maintain a pleasant personality under pressure.
