Description
The Occupational Therapist provides treatment to special needs students’ educational programs. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for determining specific areas of sensory-motor integrative dysfunction, determining students’ level of functioning relative to their age and education placement, as well as motor skills, sensory-motor integration, self-care, and activities of daily living.
$50.00 - $100.00 per hour
Responsibilities
- Assess students within their educational settings, using an ecological model of assessment to determine the student’s needs.
- Provide treatment, program consultation, and environmental modifications for students with disabilities to improve student function.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including but not limited to: students, parents, teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, adapted physical education teachers, orientation and mobility specialists, and speech pathologists.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the laws and policies governing Special Education in California, particularly as they pertain to the delivery of occupational therapy services.
- Monitor therapy programs and consult with educational staff regarding inclusion of appropriate occupational therapy treatment strategies into the educational program; evaluate the efficacy of the established program and make modifications within the framework.
- Provide interpretation and summaries of assessment reports to families; recommend appropriate activities and materials designed to support motor goals in the home.
- Maintain timely and accurate student records and reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of child growth and development.
- Understanding of California Laws, codes and regulations relative to occupational therapy.
Knowledge, Skill & Other Requirements
- State Board Certified Occupational Therapist License; required.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
- Must be legally eligible to work in California.
