Our kit and component manufacturing sites are situated across the US (Middleton, Petaluma, and Novato) and Europe (Berlin and Lystrup) and are underpinned by either ISO 13485 or ISO 9001 compliance. These capabilities support a wide portfolio of off-the-shelf components and kits critical to NGS workflows including magnetic beads, oligos, enzymes, and library prep kits. Additionally, our primary manufacturing capabilities enable customization and bulk (OEM) manufacture of reagents such as key NGS enzymes for high volume applications.
Job Description
The Lab Services Technician provides foundational support to the processing and preparation of client samples for the Lab Services team at a specific operational site. In agreement with other Lab Services team members, this position is responsible for driving their operational duties by supervisor direction as well as standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
- Take receipt of, label, transport, and store client samples according to SOPs and work instructions
- Follow applicable SOPs to prepare client tissue for extraction; effectively extract and quantify DNA
- Using designated mentorship and methodology, independently build next-generation sequencing (NGS) libraries from client DNA
- Use automated laboratory equipment safely, accurately, and efficiently to make measurements and build reactions
- Prepare buffers and solutions for use by all lab personnel
- Remove and dispose of liquid and solid waste according to established protocols
- Accurately update relevant IT systems to ensure appropriate tracking of work and client samples
- Collaborate optimally and expertly with colleagues within and outside the Lab Services team
- Assess sample quality and identify with direct management those variances out of specification to resolve course of action
- Supply to an effective, safe, and clean lab environment through various support activities
- Clean and maintain labware as needed
Qualifications
- Associate degree in a scientific field of study (e.g. biology, chemistry, physics) is required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Prior experience in a lab setting, with a proven ability to handle a pipettor and basic lab equipment accurately is required.
- A track record of reliable work attendance and performance.
- Experience in the extraction and quantification of nucleic acids, PCR, or in effectively performing other, simple, molecular biological methods is highly desirable.
