We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Equine Anesthesia Technician to join our team. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and comfort of our equine patients during surgical and diagnostic procedures.
Job Description:
As an Equine Anesthesia Technician at KEAH, you will be responsible for the administration and monitoring of anesthesia for horses undergoing surgery or diagnostic procedures. You will collaborate closely with veterinarians and other veterinary staff to provide optimal anesthesia care and support the overall health and safety of our patients. As an anesthesia tech, you will also be required to occasionally scrub into surgeries with the surgeon and/or tech the surgery if you are not running anesthesia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Anesthesia Administration: Prepare and administer anesthetic agents according to protocols, ensuring accurate dosage and monitoring of the patient’s response.
- Monitoring: Continuously monitor the horse’s vital signs, including heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure, throughout the anesthesia process.
- Pre-Anesthesia Assessment: Conduct thorough pre-anesthesia evaluations, including reviewing patient history and performing physical examinations.
- Post-Anesthesia Care: Oversee recovery from anesthesia, including managing pain relief, monitoring for complications, and ensuring a smooth transition from sedation to full consciousness.
- Equipment Management: Maintain and calibrate anesthesia equipment, ensuring it is in proper working order and ready for use.
- Collaboration: Work closely with veterinarians and surgical teams to ensure the safety and efficacy of anesthesia protocols and address any issues that arise during procedures.
Qualifications:
- Certification: Veterinary Technician Certification (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred; additional training or certification in anesthesia, especially for equines, is highly desirable.
- Experience: Prior experience in anesthesia administration for equine patients is strongly preferred.
- Skills: Expertise in anesthesia monitoring, strong understanding of equine physiology, and the ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
- Attributes: Detail-oriented, excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Physical: Have the ability to lift at least 50lbs on a repetitive basis throughout the day.
