The Opportunity
This senior level lab position will be expected to work both independently and in conjunction with their Manager/Director and other Food Technologists on the development of powdered applications along with the possibility of working on ready-to-eat, ready-to-drink, and tablets & capsule products from concept through execution. This role requires a proactive approach, underpinned by positive intent and a solution-oriented mindset. Successful applicants must have an extensive track record of developing and executing new concepts through to market/launch, and the candidate must demonstrate knowledge and a proven formulation history in powdered beverages. The ability to juggle multiple projects and apply critical thinking, organizational, communication, and analytical skills is essential. This position will have 1 to 2 direct reports and will report to the R&D Manager.
Note: This is a lab position where all food allergens (milk, soy, nuts, peanuts, wheat, egg, etc…) are present. This person will be involved in tasting a variety of product types and subsequently exposed to them.
Responsibilities include:
- Formulate and develop foods and supplements including ready-to-eat items, powders, tablets & capsules, and ready-to-drink.
- Create and flavor prototypes, organize subsequent sensory panels, and refine formulations until desired characteristics are achieved.
- Manage and execute pilot plant experiments and scale-up manufacturing runs.
- Initiate analytical testing for raw materials and trials, and input specifications and formulas into product development software.
- Engage in reformulation to comply with evolving government regulations or customer demands.
- Document all formulations, variables tested, product stability, and other pertinent details in lab notebooks and Formula Management System.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to foster an environment of honesty and integrity.
- Provide leadership in a team environment and successfully manage and develop 1 to 2 direct reports.
The Skills you will bring to the team: - Bachelor's of Science degree in Food Science, or related field and equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience working in the food, beverage, or dietary supplement industry; prior development and knowledge of dietary supplements is an advantage.
- Advanced knowledge in more than one of the aforementioned formats is a must.
- Knowledge and application of flavor systems is essential.
- Proven track record of developing new concepts and bringing products to market.
- SAP experience preferred.
