DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Rehabilitation Department provides therapy and nursing services to patients, families, and caregivers including Rehabilitation Nursing Care, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology. Our department operates as a system department and provides services to Acute Care, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility, and Outpatient settings across four campuses.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates, plans, and provides treatment and rehabilitation as prescribed by a referring physician. Works with family and team members regarding patient’s abilities and goals. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
- Adheres to Oregon State Speech-Language Licensing Board Standards.
- Performs evaluation and treatment of patients with speech, hearing, language, voice, cognitive, or swallowing disorders.
- Provides community resource knowledge and referral services.
- Provides staff consultation and training.
- May be required to drive Rehabilitation van and meet all related SCHS vehicle policy requirements.
- Functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Care Team to assure care is accomplished effectively and efficiently.
- Participates in clinical care conferencing.
- Gathers data and accurately documents information in a timely manner demonstrating compliance with department standards.
- Participates with team members in facilitating patient’s and family’s learning throughout the course of care.
- Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.

- Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.

EDUCATION:
Required: Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a college or university accredited by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required: Must have necessary requisites for licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the Oregon State Board of Health. Must have active Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). Must have necessary requisites for a valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements. Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 1 year experience required of therapy procedures with medical-based diagnoses and familiarity with rehabilitation practices.
Preferred: Previous experience in a hospital-based setting.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
