Job Description
IT EHR Support Specialist – Level I
As a key member of the IT team, the EHR Support Specialist is the primary support for implementations, upgrades, and day-to-day operations while working closely with end-users and analysts to provide operational and technical support, perform troubleshooting, and recommend processes or system improvements. This position requires the ability to quickly learn and stay abreast of Summit Health workflows, technology use and best practices across multiple disciplines. Maintains current system build as well as identifies and implements functionalities and optimal workflow solutions, supported by the EHR, under the mentorship and guidance of a certified Epic Analyst. Provides application training and clinical support related to the acquisition, implementation and use of the Epic portfolio.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide day-to-day support for EHR application and ancillary systems through analysis, build, testing, training, configuration, implementation and support activities at Summit Health and community partners, under the mentorship of a certified analyst.
- Receive and act upon tickets by identifying the root cause of issues and collaborating with application analysts to resolve issues following established change control processes.
- Prepare and maintain documentation, including analysis, design, standards, procedures, and user guides.
- Independently manage your work to complete tasks based in clearly defined project milestones and deadlines.
- Identify and escalate issues/problems/delays that may adversely impact projects.
- Analyze new functionality in releases to determine impact on existing practice.
- Achieve in-depth knowledge of respective Epic and ancillary applications, while staying current with new application functionality and enhancements.
- Act as a liaison with assigned areas of the clinic and/or business office.
- Work closely with representatives from clinical and/or financial operations to ensure technology supports the business processes.
- Participate in meetings with clinic staff to determine future system enhancements.
- Promote adoption of technology solutions within the department.
- Troubleshoot problems and questions from end users.
- Utilize knowledge of the application and workflows to develop and deliver training to new and existing staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Certification and Training Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution or a High School diploma (equivalent) with two years of applicable experience in a clinical setting.
- Desire to probe for more information about underlying needs of the organization and end user community.
- Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be willing and able to travel for training for up to four weeks at different times to support application certification/proficiency within the first year in the position.
- Ability and willingness to work longer hours and weekends if required.
- Additional Experience specifically related to the job role may be preferred or required.
- A passion for successfully working and leading team members in a cross-functional environment.
- Demonstrate intellectual curiosity with a drive for success and teamwork.
