Job Title: Emergency Department Nurse Practitioner – Auburn Memorial Medical Services
REPORTS TO/Immediate Supervisor: AMMS Medical Director/Practice Manager
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The nurse practitioner (NP) will assist in medical care of office patients in the outpatient setting as outlined in the Principal Duties and responsibilities below and will participate in all aspects of patient care as indicated. The NP will also have direct reporting responsibility to the Attending Physician of the respective patients for all evaluations and other duties performed.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- May provide direct care to patients.
- Demonstrate the ability to problem-solve, analyze existing programs, and apply process improvement principles.
- Examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
- Make tentative diagnosis and decisions about management and the patient.
- Obtain, compile and record patient medical data, including health notes and results of physical examination.
- Administer or order diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiograms, and laboratory tests.
- Participate in patient care conferences when appropriate.
- Describe the etiology and symptomatology of each selected disease process within specialty area.
- Discuss current trends in management of patients with each selected disease process.
- Consistently execute those aspects of the nursing care plan requiring specialized clinical expertise and skill.
- Recognize and address situations and concurrent medical problems which pose a challenge to the patient.
- Assist with the communication of the discharge plan to the patient and significant others.
- Obtain the results of diagnostic studies and initiate further treatment in collaboration with attending physician/designee.
- Consistently demonstrate commitment and accountability for the primary responsibility of providing quality patient care to a specialized group of patients.
- Always demonstrate respect for the patient’s confidentiality.
- Demonstrate responsiveness to the patient and family members.
- Interpret medical/nursing management to the patient, family and other health care professionals.
- Discuss the stages of death and dying and methods of intervention appropriate to each patient, which will enhance and ensure quality of nursing care.
- Maintain awareness of new developments in specialized area of expertise.
- Apply appropriate current theoretical concepts when implementing changes in medical/nursing care.
- Identify the appropriate personnel to contact for specific problems.
- Interact with, and appropriately involve other health professionals in patient management.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of computers/information systems.
- Demonstrate competence in crisis situations.
- Recognize/identify critical changes in patient’s clinical status.
- Identify the clinical manifestations of an emergency situation which require immediate intervention and respond in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Identify and respond appropriately to the impact of the crisis of acute illness upon the patient, family and other members of the health care team.
- Perform other duties within the scope of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in NYS. Must possess demonstrated effective communication skills both written and verbal.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Per diem
Pay: $110,000.00 – $145,000.00 per year
