Job Description
The Student Care and Support Manager is a key member of the Office of the Dean of Students at Ohio University. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Manager provides day-to-day assistance to students navigating difficult life events, most often mental health and psychiatric emergencies, that may be impacting their ability to be successful at Ohio University through advocacy, case management, education, and empowerment.
The Manager will play a vital role in supporting students who are referred to the University’s CARE team, as well as students seeking other assistance from the Office of the Dean of Students (some examples include: death in the family, general University related concerns, medical withdrawal, basic needs challenges, etc.). The Student Care and Support Manager provides support, coordinates services, and provides referrals to appropriate on and off campus resources.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Serve as a mental health case manager working with students in need who are experiencing difficulty and/or barriers that may include but are not limited to: physical and/or psychological health/wellness, academic performance, food/financial/housing insecurities, as well as interpersonal relationships by meeting with students to discuss presenting problems and assisting them in accessing on and off campus resources and support services.
- Review relevant student information, assess situation and needs, and provide appropriate referrals to mental health, wellbeing, and basic needs support resources.
- Assist students as they navigate various on and off campus resources and monitor students for follow-up and interventions as necessary.
- Guide students to appropriate campus resources and processes (i.e. academic assistance, medical withdrawal, tuition appeals, etc.) Advocate for students and their needs to campus stakeholders.
- Properly document all case interactions using electronic database system, making sure all correspondence and action items are accurately input and in compliance with identified standards and guidelines.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all records in accordance with FERPA and institutional policy. Consistent with FERPA requirements, the manager may notify parents, medical professionals, police, and others as appropriate during health and safety emergencies.
Serve as a member of the University’s CARE (Behavioral Intervention Team) Team, a multi-unit team that works to provide a coordinated response to students experiencing various crisis and/or mental health issues, behavior concerns, and or other high-risk situations.
- Participate in weekly CARE (Behavioral Intervention Team) meetings and individually follow-up with students of concern.
- Meet with students to discuss presenting problems and assist them in accessing and navigating on and off campus resources and support services.
- Consult with faculty, staff, students, law enforcement, legal counsel, and other constituents (as needed and as appropriate) regarding students of concern and advocate for students and their needs to stakeholders.
- Facilitate outreach, education, and workshops regarding CARE team for campus constituents.
- Through the lens of inclusive excellence, this position should promote equity through the identification and removal of barriers for underserved students engaging in the CARE process.

- In collaboration with the Basic Needs Coordinator and Associate Dean of Students, provide case management for students experiencing financial emergencies, homelessness, and housing insecurity. Provide referral and support to students and review and process emergency microgrant applications.
- Provide direct assistance in applying to public assistance programs (i.e. SNAP, housing assistance, HEAP, etc.)
Participate in the overall activities and mission of the Office of the Dean of Students including:
- Serving as a member of the Office of the Dean of Students on-call rotation and providing appropriate, coordinated response to personal and campus emergencies (including student deaths and missing students), and response and presence to campus demonstrations and protests.
- Track and compile department data, maintain weekly data dashboard, and assist with annual report data for the Office of the Dean of Students.
- Maintain consistent presence in the office for counsel/ advising/ problem solving with students, faculty, staff, and parents/families who call or drop in.
Collaborate and consult with key stakeholders and members of the student support networks both on and off campus to develop a coordinated, multidisciplinary, and inclusive approach for responding to, advocating for and supporting students.
This is an in-person position located on the Athens campus. Must be able to respond to campus within ~30 minutes when serving on-call.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree* (Social Work. Sociology, Psychology preferred)
- Valid Drivers License required
- Minimum of 3 years related work experience
- While clinical licensure is not required for this position, those with educational backgrounds in mental health professions are encouraged to apply.
- This is an in-person position located on the Athens campus. Must be able to respond to campus within ~30 minutes when serving on-call.

The approved target hiring range for this position is $44,592 – $59,085 annually but the final salary is commensurate with education and experience.
