Certified Physician Assistant
Physician assistant (PA) is needed for a small fast-paced primarily outpatient Urology practice in Central Austin. Must be able to multitask, learn tasks quickly, and work independently. We are looking for an employee that is dependable, looking for longevity in a career, and hard-working with a good work ethic. Please review requirements, as we will only interview qualified candidates. Urology experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Provides patient care in the office as well as through telehealth including patient assessment, review of systems, history and physical, evaluating and ordering diagnostic testing, considering and prescribing appropriate medications, and recommending follow-up care and subsequent visits.
- Able to perform non-invasive in-office procedures.
- Solicits opinions and obtains counsel of physicians for the care of patients when handling complicated cases, and in cases where patients have adverse reactions or unexpected complications.
- Documents clearly on patients’ charts all findings, orders, medications prescribed, and plan for follow up.
- Reviews results from patient tests, responds to critical values in an urgent fashion, and communicates results with physicians and with patients. Orders follow up testing as appropriate.
- Counsels patients regarding preventative care, therapeutic options, the risks and benefits of recommended testing and medications, and other psycho/social needs.
- Handles telephone calls from patients, family members, referring physicians and their staff, hospitals, pharmacies, etc. Triages phone calls and responds promptly and professionally according to the accepted company protocols, including documenting calls in the patient’s chart.
- Dictates letters to referring physicians and other practitioners, including the results of patients’ evaluation, recommended course of treatment, and follow up care.
- Performs patient procedures to include but not limited to: Venipuncture / insertion of IV access, bladder ultrasound, prostate ultrasound, stent removals, urinalysis, microscopy, administering medications, bladder instillations, hormone pellet insertions, voiding trials, suture/surgical staple removal, wound care, dressing changes, urinary catheter insertion and removal, and ureteral stent removal.
- Assists physicians during office hours, and supplements the other clinical staff during clinics and procedures to include vasectomies, cystoscopy, urethral dilatation, and other non-invasive cases.
- Assists physicians during in-office procedures as requested. Explains and provides written pre-operative and post-operative instructions for patients. Documents daily follow-up calls with patients post-procedure, including daily voiding diary and communicates results with physicians.
- Handles after hours calls as requested by physicians.
- Handles physician rounds at the hospital when indicated.
- Records all patient interactions and procedures on encounter forms, including CPT codes for all procedures and evaluation and management services, ICD-10 diagnosis codes, medications administered, and medical supplies given.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager and/or Physicians.
Requirements:
- PA License required. Must keep up with all continuing education and license requirements.
- Requires prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, lifting, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.
- Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.
