Responsibilities
- Utilizes the nursing process for the performance of patient care:
- Performs complete admission assessment.
- Performs comprehensive nursing assessments efficiently and effectively.
- Conducts full body system analysis.
- Administers nursing assessments according to applicable patient types, including Acute, Observation, ER, SNF, and Outpatient.
- Reviews and implements health care provider orders appropriately.
- Responds to call lights and patient needs timely.
- Recognizes abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition.
- Serves as a patient advocate.
- Performs patient rounding for all assignments.
- Evaluates patient progress toward desired outcomes prior to discharge.
- Demonstrates accountability in delivering patient care competently and compassionately.
- Provides intravenous interventions.
- Collaborates with health care providers:
- Promotes effective communication regarding patient condition and care plans.
- Works effectively with ancillary areas.
- Directs patient support team members appropriately.
- Demonstrates initiative and flexibility in patient care.
- Informs Lead Nurse or Nurse Manager about patient care issues timely.
- Assists in patient assignments and coordinating admissions.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team.
- Completes patient and family education throughout the patient's stay and at discharge.
- Performs emergency treatment:
- Initiates or assists in patient care responsively.
- Triages emergency situations appropriately.
- Administers emergent care as per patient population type.
- Follows emergency policies and procedures effectively.
- Maintains documentation:
- Documents ongoing assessments reflecting nursing interventions and patient status.
- Completes shift end check prior to leaving duty.
- Communicates effectively with health team members.
- Follows approved shift report format.
- Reports condition changes to medical provider.
- Promotes patient and staff safety:
- Administers medications and treatments safely according to orders.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics and transfer techniques.
- Implements infection control procedures.
- Follows procedures for wasting narcotics and disposing of sharps.
- Performs in a Lead Nurse capacity:
- Oversees care delivery and staffing needs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of treatments and policies.
- Responds to patient/family concerns.
- Adapts to changes in workload.
- Initiates necessary duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
Required: Bachelor's in Nursing or related field.
