Job Description:
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has an Epidemiologist opening in Topeka. This position will provide epidemiology and evaluation support to Kansas Injury and Violence Prevention Programs including the CORE State Injury Prevention Program and the Kansas Sexual Violence Prevention Education Program. This includes conducting literature reviews, identifying, and analyzing existing data sources, planning and implementing new data collection strategies, and analyzing and interpreting these data to measure the burden of unintentional and intention injury in Kansas.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Disseminate results from data analysis via written reports, fact sheets, news releases, articles, dashboards, materials for the KDHE website, abstracts for presentations and posters at public health and scientific meetings, manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications, and other media. Seeks out new data sources and provides evaluation of data quality.
Track progress toward meeting program objectives and monitor injury, disability and related issues in Kansas, including health status trend sin disparate Kansas populations. Provide technical assistance to program staff for evaluation of program efforts. Continually review procedures to facilitate the monitoring of injury morbidity and mortality in the state. Design and implement special studies as appropriate and prepare publications to document findings. Assist with the preparation of grant-related reports, including reporting of program objectives, epidemiology, and evaluation sections.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Masters of Public Health or Masters of Science degree.
Licensing & Certification:
- Valid Driver’s License – Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver’s license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
Preferred Qualifications:
Any additional skills, experiences, or qualifications that would be beneficial, but aren’t strictly necessary.
- MPH/MS in Epidemiology.
- MPH/MS degree with a year or more of independent work as an applied epidemiologist.
- Ability to develop proposals for program interventions.
- Experience in applying scientific concepts in injury prevention programs.
- Knowledge of public health law and regulation principles.
- Ability to plan and conduct epidemiologic/survey projects.
- Ability to derive concepts of causality or epidemiologic association from data.
- Knowledge of program evaluation data analysis.
- Knowledge of program evaluation methodologies.
- Presenting scientific information to diverse audiences.
- Scientific report writing.
- Epidemiologic data analysis using SAS program.
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
