The Loudoun County Department of Health seeks a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our dynamic team as an Environmental Health Specialist. At the Loudoun Health Department, our mission is to lead the way in creating a community focused on health and wellness, and we're looking for someone who shares our passion and dedication. As an Environmental Health Specialist, you will play a pivotal role within the consumer services division, operating under general supervision and serve on a team of highly skilled environmental health professionals.
Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of program areas, including but not limited to retail food safety, recreational water safety, hotel and motel inspections, and oversight of schools, among others.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Evaluates food safety at permitted food establishments to verify compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes.
- Conducts inspections of public/permitted swimming pools and spas to ensure water quality sufficient to prevent disease, promote safety, and ensure compliance with codes.
- Handles customer technical calls to the Environmental Health unit and investigates environmental health concerns.
- Evaluates and approves site and building plans for food, water recreation, and tourist facilities that require a Health Department permit to operate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field; two (2) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification); additional license if required by law for position or assigned department.
Pass pre-employment criminal background check, fingerprint, and DMV checks.
Special Requirements:
- Must have completed or be able to complete training in the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Food program and be able to obtain credentials of VDH Standardized in Food.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a certified pool operator license.
- Subject to recall/rotational on-call 24-hours a day, seven days a week as assigned. May be required to work during public health/County emergencies 24/7; and if so, may be assigned to a different location or asked to serve in a different capacity. May be required to work in an outdoor environment during varying types of weather (hot or cold).
