Senior Director of Development, Veterinary Medical Complex (Fundraiser 5)Job SummarySenior Director of Development (Fundraiser 5)Under the direction of the Executive Director of Development-VMC, the Senior Director of Development-VMC will be responsible for supporting fundraising programs for the School of Veterinary Medicine with a focus on securing philanthropic support for the two veterinary medical center campaigns (Davis, San Diego).
The goals are to operationalize a program that builds a pipeline of grateful client prospects, alumni and friends of the school engages clinicians, administrators, volunteers and others in the grateful client process. Support, and service as project lead where assigned, the implementation and coordination of the VMC Campaigns, under director of the Executive Director of Development-VMC, acting as lead. Work with VMTH and Hobbs Center leaders and staff, to assist in the implementation of the grateful client fundraising pipeline and have daily physical presence in the hospital (at least four days/week).
This position will work closely with development team members and VMTH and Hobbs Center teams ensuring synergy and strategic involvement in VMC campaigns, disseminating up-to-date information and resources. Prepare and deliver presentations, speeches, and reports as needed to a variety of audiences to increase awareness of the program.
Assist in coordinating fundraising training within VMTH and Hobbs Center. Collaborate with communications and others to develop and distribute materials for the veterinary medical campaign.
Identifies new donor prospects through researching background information on potential donors, engaging with faculty and staff for referrals and developing materials, marketing plans, and organizing related programs/events; cultivates, stewards, and solicit donor prospects. Develop relationships, build trust and create working partnership with research, faculty, client services, Chiefs of Service, executive leadership and staff of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) and Hobbs Center to help with the generation of high net-worth leads and identification of major and principal gift prospects in order to help reach individual fundraising goals and that of the unit.
Under broad direction from the Executive Director of Development-VMC, serves as a critical member of the School of Veterinary Medicine development team. Ensures a high level of effectiveness and service and works in concert with all UC Davis Development colleagues. A dedicated fundraiser, the Senior Director of Development-VMC is required, at minimum, to secure 120 face-to-face donor visits per year, with a minimum of supervision. As a communications expert, the incumbent is an excellent listener with exceptional interpersonal skills and a positive, collaborative work style. As such, the incumbent possesses the skills and ability to draft correspondence, phone calls and engage all communication channels in order to personally conduct proactive outreach to prospects. Highly organized, strategic and self-motivated, the incumbent, utilizing the UC Davis Prospect Management services and systems, will work to identify potential new donor prospects who will then be personally visited and either qualified face-to-face for continued cultivation, or disqualified as a major gift prospect.
Success as a fundraiser at UC Davis requires the incumbent to also be a collaborative team player who adheres to the university's Principles of Community and complies with UC Davis Development policies. The Senior Director of Development-VMC is a part of the larger development organization and will report to an experienced and dedicated team manager who provides support, training and guidance. Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Significant knowledge of, and experience in, all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations including advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
- Demonstrated advanced experience in fundraising as a successful major gift officer, including experience in developing proposals and successfully soliciting funds from individuals, foundations and corporations, preferably in a higher education environment; or equivalent transferrable professional experience including strategic relationship development and portfolio management; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Expert professional knowledge of and skills in strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, persuasion/negotiation skills and marketing skills in order to meet predetermined goals and objectives, including securing gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including excellent political acumen skills, to build and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications- Demonstrated experience in working with human health hospital fundraising or veterinary hospital fundraising, university-level alumni or other donor constituency groups. Includes creating and implementing group-specific communications, organizing and managing group meetings (in person and/or virtual) and resolving group conflict in a professional manner.
- Demonstrated Project Management skills to successfully operationalize a grateful client program and support, and serve as project lead where assigned, in the implementation and coordination of the VMC Campaigns.
- Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) Excellent knowledge of the campus, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives, applicable policies, infrastructure and current issues of concern for higher education generally.
- Awareness, knowledge, and skill in applying diversity, equity and inclusion to one's work.
