Summary:
The Radiation Therapist provides safe and effective delivery of radiation treatment as prescribed by the physicians and documents patient’s daily statistical information.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm, PRN, as needed
No weekends, evenings or holidays!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates the linear accelerator and delivers on a planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision and monitors the accuracy of delivery;
- Positions patient according to setup instructions determined in the simulator, using special devices where applicable;
- Reports any unusual reactions or patient concerns to the physician, withholding treatment if deemed necessary by the physician;
- Checks daily treatment record for special instructions or procedural changes;
- Thoroughly educates patients and/or family on the radiation therapy procedures the patient will receive;
- Performs a “Time Out” to make sure the correct patient is being treated;
- Performs a “Chart Check” prior to any new treatment fields;
- Takes photographs of set-ups when applicable and documents them in Aria;
- Maintains daily treatment schedule, ensuring efficient patient flow;
- Notify appropriate personnel for transportation arrangements when necessary;
- Checks billing daily to ensure the correct physician and codes have been sent through;
- Performs simulation in accordance with simulation policy & physician’s instructions;
- Performs imaging procedures prescribed by the physician;
- Performs daily quality assurance check on the machine each morning;
- Follow all radiation safety measures for patient and personnel as specified by the radiation safety officer;
- Notify appropriate personnel when equipment is in need of repair or when supplies run low;
- Follow all health care privacy and safety rules and adheres to Dayton Physicians Core Values;
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Not applicable.
Required Education and/ or Experience:
High school diploma and Graduate of AMA approved school in radiation therapy and must have a current Ohio Department of Health Radiologic license and current ARRT license. Position preferred 2-3 years previous Radiation Therapist experience. CPR certification required.
General Skill Requirements:
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience working with a Practice Management system.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of this position to provide excellent customer service to both our internal and external stakeholders.
Physical/ Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to assist patients, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The position requires regular lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental/ Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Patient care and non-patient care environments requiring frequent contact with office staff and physicians. Work may be stressful at times. The employee is exposed to radiation, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals and personal protection is required. Radiation exposure will be monitored by film badge for exposure.
