The purpose of the MRI Technologist is to perform diagnostic testing by taking images of patients’ bodies using computerized MRI scanners.
Essential Job Functions
- Administer image scans on patients to produce quality images of designated areas of the body.
- Prepare patients for MRI examinations by interviewing and explaining procedures.
- Position patients in order to ensure appropriate images.
- Obtain IV access and administer contrast via IV.
- Ensure all necessary images are received and recorded.
- Maintain real-time documentation related to patient’s exam.
- Maintain patient care, comfort, and safety before, during, and after examinations.
- Maintain technical competency through continued education and participation in training programs.
- Cooperate with facility healthcare personnel and comply with facility policies and procedures.
- Maintain current permits to practice.
- Complete necessary administrative tasks when required.
- Follow quality assurance guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Perform scheduled and as needed QC on the MRI scanner and all associated components.
- Notify appropriate personnel when necessary to deal with issues pertaining to MRI scanner.
- Ability to be at work regularly and on time.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must have strong attention to detail.
- Must be able to follow instructions well.
- Must have excellent bedside manner.
Education/Experience
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have an Associate’s degree from accredited university.
- Must have ARRT certification.
Working conditions
This position works in the Imaging Center of a busy outpatient oncology/hematology clinic. Direct patient contact is required. An employee in this position may be exposed to radiation, bodily fluids, and chemicals.
Physical requirements
This position requires that the employee be able to stand on their feet for up to (10) hours a day. This position also requires the ability to lift, move, and position patients who are very ill.
