Position Summary:
Under the administrative and clinical direction of the Director of Rehabilitation Services and the supervision of Supervisor of Occupational Therapy, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for assigned administrative functions in a clinical capacity, participates in the educational activities of the department, and provides for personal and professional growth and development. The Occupational Therapist reflects the Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics as set forth by the Representative Assembly of the American Occupational Therapy Association. The Occupational Therapist practices within the boundaries outlined in the State of Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Functions in an administrative capacity: 40%
- Monitors productivity of assigned work group.
- Assists in determining day-to-day staffing needs of an assigned work group.
- Assists in the clinical development, review, and revision.
- Contributes to Fiscal Compliance:
- Effectively utilizes resources to ensure compliance with budgetary parameters and recommends necessary equipment.
- Orders equipment as assigned for unit and departmental accounts.
Functions in a clinical capacity: 40%
- Responds to Referral/Request for Service:
- Follows department standards for turnaround time of appropriate response to request for Occupational Therapy service.
- Oversees the response of assigned Occupational Therapy Assistants, students, aides/techs as required.
- Functions (and ensures assigned others function) within the Occupational Therapy Scope of Practice, Code of Ethics, and compliant with AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association) Practice Standards and Illinois licensure.
- Assessment:
- Completes Occupational Therapy assessments in accordance with departmental and/or clinical protocol for all assigned patients and interprets results.
- Performs specialized assessments according to protocol and/or trains, provides supervision, and assesses the competency of assigned staff.
- Functions as a primary clinical resource for staff.
- Treatment Planning:
- Establishes and appropriately modifies Occupational Therapy treatment plans for all assigned patients.
- Guides the use of Occupational Therapy theoretical framework and functions as a primary clinical resource for assigned staff.
- Works collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team and facilitates collaborative treatment planning with assigned staff.
- Treatment Implementation and Follow Up:
- Implements treatment plans and monitors the implementation of assigned personnel.
- Follows appropriate protocol for utilization of treatment modalities, technology, and techniques, and ensures the same for assigned personnel.
- Assists in introducing new skills and techniques congruent with Occupational Therapy theory.
- May act as the department fieldwork education coordinator after a minimum of (3) years clinical experience: 10%
- Secures Fieldwork Agreements with colleges and universities.
- Develops behavioral objectives for the fieldwork program.
- Coordinates the departmental fieldwork student schedule.
- Functions as a liaison between the department, school, and student.
- Provides student orientation to the facility.
- Notifies school of problems, issues, and/or potential student terminations.
- Maintains the student file and ensures appropriate documentation to meet AOTA and organizational requirements for fieldwork activity.
- Provides training, support, and guidance to clinical supervisors.
- Provides for professional growth and development: 10%
- Remains abreast of clinical developments in the field of Occupational Therapy.
- Completes all competency requirements of the position.
- Participates in a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education (i.e. workshops, in-services, seminars, structured reading, self-study course, mentorship, etc.).
- Participates (at least monthly) in department leadership activities.
- Presents a minimum of (1) clinically focused in-service topic per year.
- Represents the department on interdisciplinary (clinically focused) cross-functional groups.
- Maintains CPR certification.
- Participates in recruitment and retention activities for the department.
- Assists in marketing activities as assigned.
- Participates in professional activities as appropriate.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
