Position Overview:
The Nurse Educator will coordinate and ensure all unit-based and hospital-wide education and competencies are completed. Participates in patient care coordinating the plan of care, providing direct age-appropriate nursing interventions and patient education, and collaborating with ancillary, nursing, and other patient team personnel. Directs the team of CNA's, LPN's, and Ward Secretaries. Works under the supervision of the Nurse Director.
Essential Functions as Unit Based Nurse Educator:
- Implement all unit-based education and competency.
- Implementation of annual skills day and other hospital-wide competencies.
- Orient new staff.
- Ensure all unit-based and hospital-wide competencies are complete for all employees.
- Ensure employee files are complete and Joint Commission ready.
- Participate in service line expansion.
- Key player in organizational projects.
- Works as staff nurse on a regular basis.
- Administrative relief for Director when Director is out of office.
Essential Functions as Registered Nurse:
- Uses acceptable standards of practice based on nursing process and theory to help the individual/family/group with complex and unpredictable needs, identify and meet basic age-appropriate health needs. The nurse coordinates care of the individual/family/group using a multidisciplinary holistic approach.
- Promotes a climate in which consumers can act in their own interest or intervenes when they are unable to do so.
- Uses the nursing process and theory to provide age-appropriate individual/family/guardian/designated surrogate education using a wide range of teaching activities to promote health.
- Works to achieve desired health care outcomes by effectively utilizing human and material resources.
- Is accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to nursing practice across all the roles, within the scope of practice.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an associates, diploma, or bachelor's degree and licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado.
- Training and Experience: Education experience is preferred but not required.
- Job Knowledge: Encompass a wide range of nursing, psycho-social, and medical information which includes nursing process, communications, problem-solving, critical thinking skills, assessment, and prioritizing skills.
