The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT)/CT will provide advanced imaging services at the WRJ VA Medical Center. This role requires performing diagnostic radiologic and computed tomography (CT) procedures, including interventional exams, using advanced equipment. The technologist will ensure accurate image acquisition, patient safety, and compliance with hospital policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of contrast administration, anatomy, pathology, and radiographic safety. Additionally, they will work closely with radiologists and other healthcare providers to deliver high-quality patient care.
Qualifications
- Certification:
- Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) and Computed Tomography (CT).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience performing diagnostic radiographic and CT imaging procedures.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and common diseases affecting radiographic imaging.
- Familiarity with advanced imaging equipment and interventional radiography procedures.
- Background Investigation:
- Must pass a federal background investigation prior to employment.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in handling and administering contrast materials.
- Ability to operate a wide variety of imaging equipment, including fluoroscopic, portable radiography, and CT systems.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
Responsibilities
Imaging Operations:
- Perform a full range of diagnostic radiologic and computed tomography (CT) exams, including head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, extremities, and angiographic studies.
- Oversee the safe day-to-day operation of the CT and/or Angio environment.
- Perform CT Interventional Radiography exams such as biopsies, abscess drainages, and RF ablations using sterile techniques.
- Prepare and administer contrast materials under radiologist supervision for various procedures (e.g., UGI, BE, venograms, cystograms, and CT angiography).
Patient Care and Safety:
- Ensure proper patient identification using full name, SSN, and/or hospital ID band.
- Monitor patients during imaging procedures, especially during contrast administration, and respond to adverse reactions promptly.
- Practice radiation safety procedures to minimize patient and staff exposure.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate imaging equipment, ensuring proper function and reporting malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
- Perform routine equipment checks and make minor adjustments as necessary.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of radiation doses for fluoroscopic exams and contrast usage.
- Thoroughly document patient exams in the hospital's PACS system and ensure proper registration, completion, and editing of radiologic exams.
Collaboration and Workflow Management:
- Collaborate with radiologists to ensure accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment for patients.
- Prioritize and schedule exams based on patient needs and emergency cases, ensuring efficient use of equipment and personnel.
Infection Control and Sterile Technique:
- Apply infection control practices and procedures as mandated by the hospital and imaging service policies.
- Prepare sterile trays, label medications for sterile procedures, and prevent contamination of patients and equipment.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure the quality of radiographic exams to meet high standards while minimizing patient radiation dose.
- Participate in reject/repeat analysis, maintaining an acceptable monthly performance level.
Schedule Requirements
- The DRT/CT Technologist will work a compressed night shift schedule that is subject to revision based on patient care needs as determined by the WRJ VAMC Radiology Chief.

- Sunday: 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
- Thursday: 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Friday: 12:00 AM – 7:00 AM; 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Saturday: 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM; 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Week 2:
- Sunday: 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
- Wednesday: 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Thursday: 12:00 AM – 6:00 AM; 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Friday: 12:00 AM – 7:00 AM; 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Saturday: 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM; 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM
