This opportunity is:
Location: Memphis, TN
Hours: 7am-3:30pm with rotating weekend and holidays

In this role, you will:
- Perform technical testing duties as bench technologist/technician
- Assist with appropriate test methods selection
- Assist with adequate method verification or validation as new tests are introduced or current ones are modified
- Update and/or write procedure (SOP) and related forms
- Review and sign monthly QC and maintenance according to CAP/State requirement
- Assist and monitor inventory by working with vendor, supply department, and supervisor
- Assist pathologists with inquiries and problem solving
- Review proficiency testing (and recommend changes when necessary) and assure compliance with CMS, State of Tennessee and CAP requirements
- Update and maintain CAP checklist exhibit binder(s) and assure compliance with CMS, State of Tennessee and CAP requirements
- Ensure all proficiency samples are tested in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and are returned to the providers in a timely manner for inclusion in grading events and peer comparison
- Ensure appropriate staff reviews proficiency reports and assists with resolutions proposals for any needed corrective action
- Ensure corrective action plans are put into place immediately, followed to prevent any future errors and review for appropriateness of noted error prevention
- Establish a quality assessment plan for the assigned area and enlist assistance from technical staff for data collection or other interpretation duties as needed
- Establish a quality control program, assure it is followed on all shifts and maintain the program with the assistance of available software or quality control providers support
- Establish a written procedure for all analytical tests performed and review annually or sooner if updates are needed; assure availability to all personnel
- Document deviations from established laboratory procedures and communicate the need for remedial action with the staff member's supervisor/manager
- Issue corrected reports as soon as an accurate result can be achieved; notify customer service for client notification
- Assure competency for all technical staff working in the assigned area; this includes initial training as well as maintained readiness for testing performance by monitoring all phases of testing that apply (pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical)
- Responsible for assurance of training as identified for new instrumentation, new procedures or remediation due to multiple mistakes or issues with a given procedure
- Assist with inventory, reagents and other consumables as directed by supervisor
- Assist with teaching duties when AEL partners with local colleges and universities
- Serve as on-site supervisor for weekend/holiday work assignments and in the absence of department supervisor
- While this position is not solely responsible for scheduling, counseling, dispensary actions, performance evaluations or time keeping, recommendations for each of these are to be communicated to supervisor/manager
- Communicate via email or verbally in a professional and timely manner. Items that may require exchange include problematic specimens, special client requests, complaints or comments that require follow-up, interface anomalies or equipment failure
- In all communications, keep in mind, you represent the company; making sure decisions and actions are based on the employee handbook, written procedures and established safety practices
- Re-assign staff and duties based on needs at times
- Other duties as directed by supervisor/manager/director
All you need is:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology; or Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science with 1 year of Medical Technology training
- 1 year of laboratory training or experience performing high complexity testing
- Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent
- Active Tennessee Medical Laboratory Supervisor License
- Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to operate general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computers, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and audible alarms.
