Position Description
A Researcher within R&D is tasked with developing new chemistries and technologies for building materials, as well as providing technical support, guidance, and solutions to manufacturing facilities. This role reports directly to the Laboratory Director and collaborates with other scientists skilled in construction-related formulated products. These products encompass, but are not limited to, cement plasters, mortars, joint treatments, coatings, adhesives and sealants, textures, and reinforcing tapes and beads. The successful candidate will work closely with product management, technical services, manufacturing, safety, and quality teams to meet strategic technical objectives.
Job Functions
- Design experiments, prepare samples for testing, develop products, qualify raw materials, scale up manufacturing, and optimize production processes.
- Conduct independent experimental research within a multidisciplinary team.
- Leverage technical expertise, data analysis, and statistical tools to address technical challenges.
- Document experimental findings and produce technical reports.
- Explain complex concepts clearly to stakeholders, including plants, research technicians, quality control teams, customers, and other internal and external parties regarding development, applications, quality assurance, and related services.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and maintain good housekeeping practices.
- Stay updated with industry and professional field advancements by networking with peers, reading relevant literature, and attending professional meetings.
- Serve as a technical expert in their field, representing the company.
- Occasionally, perform tasks beyond those outlined in this description.
Education and Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Sciences, Chemistry, or a related discipline, with 2 to 5 years of post-doctoral or industry experience
- Experience in paint and coating formulations is preferred
- Demonstrated history of research publications, patents, etc.
- Proven ability to think innovatively and a passion for solving complex and challenging problems
- Strong skills in project management and team leadership
- Excellent presentation abilities and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Willingness and capability to travel to plant and customer locations as needed
