What you will be doing:
As a Public Health Nurse 3, your work will have a meaningful impact on the Sitka community and several small outlying communities. You will deliver the full range of public health nursing services at an individual, community, and systems level. You will also serve as the team leader for two other Sitka Public Health Center staff.

Sharp Program Eligibility:
The successful candidate may be eligible for a $60,000 incentive award through the Alaska SHARP 2 program. If selected, the applicant will enter into a contract with the State of Alaska, agreeing to live and work in Sitka for a period of three years. SHARP participants can choose quarterly student loan repayments or direct payments for the duration of the contract in addition to their base salary. Most applicants who apply are eligible.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is located in the beautiful island community of Sitka in Southeast Alaska. Accessible only by air or sea, Sitka is in the heart of the Tongass National Forest. Outdoor opportunities, including wildlife viewing, fishing, hiking, and boating, abound. The Public Health Center has ample parking and is conveniently located near a shopping center.

To be successful in the position, the candidate will need to show the following Competencies in detail in their application work history:

- This position may require travel to remote areas of Alaska via small aircraft or boats.
- A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
- A valid Alaska Registered Nursing License is required, per Alaska Nurse Practice Act: Nursing Statutes AS 08.68, Nursing Regulations 12 AAC 44.
- CPR Certification will be required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska;
AND
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university or Direct Entry Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing from an accredited college or university;
AND
Any combination of additional education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:
- Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.
- Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
- Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.
- Partnering: Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.
- Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
Special Notes:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of RN licensure will be required prior to appointment and reporting for duty.

- Annual influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.
- Proof of Tuberculosis screening within the past 12 months.
- A copy of your current driver's license.
