Summary of Job Duties: A Medical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory tests and conducts analysis of blood, urine, spinal fluid, body fluids and other biological samples to determine presence of normal and abnormal components. Enters results in electronic medical record and performs quality controls to verify accurate test results. Maintains and operates laboratory equipment and instruments.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technician from a regionally accredited school or program that is recognized by ASCP.
- Eligible to take the ASCP or equivalent certification board exam as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Must pass the exam within 1 year of hire or eligible date.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous clinical laboratory experience
- ASCP certification
Additional Information:
- Manages and maintains inventory per rules and regulations including PPE safety equipment/supplies.
- Performs quality control and calibrations, taking corrective action as needed; maintains and facilitates repair of analyzers, lab equipment, and automation equipment.
- Communicates technical information about specimen collection, sample transport and identification, required documents, test methods, and other related technical information to RN's, physicians and laboratory clients.
- Analyzes and processes blood, urine, spinal fluid, body fluids, and other biological specimens in assigned section(s).
