Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for a Radiology Technologist or Radiology Technologist, Senior in our Radiology (Hospital) department. This part-time (0.8 FTE) position will work a 7 days on and 7 days off schedule. The schedule will be Wednesday - Friday (3:00pm - 11:30pm), Saturday - Sunday (9:00am - 9:30pm), and Monday - Tuesday (3:00pm - 11:30pm). There will also be an on-call and holiday requirement.
A $10,000 sign-on bonus is available for eligible external candidates (contract/temporary workers and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible).
Purpose of this position: Under the direction of the area supervisor or lead technologist, performs imaging exams/procedures, provides patient care and technical functions to ensure quality radiographic images.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs general radiographic and fluoroscopic exams as applicable.
- Adequately prepares room for procedures.
- Reviews and verifies exam requests to ensure correct exam is ordered on the correct patient.
- Interviews patients and reviews available clinical data from charts to alert nurses and/or physicians to possible contraindications for procedure (labs, allergies, etc.).
- Ensures patients receive the same level of care as provided on patient's unit.
- Explains exam procedure to patient and family members who are present.
- Demonstrates correct anatomic positioning and exposure factors relating to area-specific exams.
- Follows ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle.
- Demonstrates extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and effects of disease processes.
- Evaluates images, recognizes normal vs. abnormal anatomy, and notifies the appropriate Radiologist as needed; takes appropriate action to address image quality issues.
- Consistently performs quality exams and ensures that department protocols are followed (positioning protocols, etc.).
- Utilizes the image management system; acquires, formats, manipulates, archives, and prints images from the PACS system.
- Accurately reports total number of images taken and number of and reason for repeat radiographs.
- Assists physicians and residents as required with radiology exams/procedures.
- Utilizes EPIC system appropriately (orders, scheduling documentation, and billing).
- Implements downtime procedures (manual operations) when computer systems or equipment fails.
- Instructs new staff and students in imaging procedures and techniques.
- Evaluates and completes competency test-outs on students. Provides ongoing feedback to Student Coordinator about any issues.
- Assists with education and training of medical staff (Radiology Residents, Fellows, etc.).
- Maintains equipment and room in proper working condition and trouble-shoots malfunctioning equipment. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to proper personnel as soon as issue is recognized.
- Respects and uses equipment appropriately. Takes ownership and reports incidents involving themselves and the equipment when it happens.
- Performs various clerical duties.
- Performs quality control procedures.
- Demonstrates and promotes a healthy work environment and good teamwork; makes suggestions for improvements.
- Assists in organizing work flow utilizing available staff and rooms.
- Assists in coordinating and participates in departmental continuing education in-services.
- Provides peer feedback for staff performance evaluations.
- Completes additional duties/projects as assigned.
- Follows hospital policy in handling and securing medications.
QUALIFICATIONS - Radiology Technologist
- Completion of a formal educational Radiologic Technology program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Currently certified with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Maintains minimum CEU credits as mandated by the ARRT.
- Possess current CPR certification or obtain within 6 months of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS - Radiology Technologist, Senior
- Completion of a formal educational Radiologic Technology program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Currently certified with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Maintains minimum CEU credits as mandated by the ARRT.
- Possess current CPR certification or obtain within 6 months of employment.
AND
- Two years' experience in Radiology as a Radiology Technologist.
