Department: ICE | NRSL Clinical Specialist IP C
Summary of Job Duties: The Clinical Specialist is a licensed nurse who functions within the three spheres of influence; patient-nurse-system. Must possess advanced knowledge of nursing practice and the ability to apply standards within the Inpatient and/or Outpatient practice areas. Co-Leadership with the Spine Medical Directors to coordinate the development and implementation of the UAMS Spine Program while remaining consistent with the leadership of the Neurosciences Service Line. Lead the Spine Steering committee to establish and prioritize both long-term and short-term goals within the program. This includes but is not limited to the work for continued Joint Commission readiness and site visits. Collaborates with key personnel in departments that provide care to the spine patient including but not limited to Neuroscience and Orthopaedic leadership teams, inpatient nursing at Main and TOSH, rehabilitation services, perioperative staff, anesthesia, interventional pain, orthopaedic and neurosurgery spine attending. Serves as the integral role in various meetings that make decisions on program needs and services.
Qualifications:
Education Requirements:
- Associate RN plus six (6) years of experience (ability to obtain BSN within 2 (two) years of hire) OR
- Bachelor RN plus four (4) years of experience
Experience Requirements:
- Four (4) years in nursing with two (2) years in a specialty area. Special project involvement.
- Two (2) years of experience in a leadership role (including Charge Nurse, Team Lead, or RN IV level at UAMS)
- National RN Certification (or ability to obtain it within 1 (one) year of hire)
- Active RN license & BLS
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Must possess strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Able to follow oral and written instructions and communicate with other effectively
- Ability to document services provided
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance organizations/agencies
- Excellent customer relations skills
- Understands and abides by confidentiality policies
Preferred Experience:
- Master's in Nursing
- Experience in an academic medical setting
- National Nursing Certification in the specialty area of for the position

Responsibilities
- Provides area leadership in collaboration with the administrative leaders, focusing on orientation, professional development, skills/competency validation, evidence-based practice, shared governance, regulatory compliance, nurse sensitive quality indicators, and performance improvement.
- Assesses and designs training and/or educational programs to address identified deficiencies/learning needs.
- Understands and assures the use of adult learning principles and culturally appropriate initiatives and imparts this knowledge to faculty/staff as appropriate.
- Identify barriers or concerns which interfere with the learning process and suggests alternatives for resolution; consults with departments, staff, and managers to determine goals.
- Establish and lead process improvement initiatives
- Other duties as assigned.
