Penobscot Valley Hospital is seeking a qualified candidate for ED Physician, providing Physician care for Emergency Department patients.
This position is full-time / up to 40 hours weekly. Employment Agreement as outlined for position.

Job Functions
- Provides quality health care for the community in keeping with PVH Mission Statement.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, making critical decisions to stabilize patients and, if necessary, refer them for further treatment or hospitalization is required.
- Conduct rapid and thorough assessments of patients who present with diverse and often complex medical conditions.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including blood work, X-rays, CT scans, and other imaging studies.
- Formulate differential diagnoses and develop treatment plans based on clinical findings.
- Work closely with all members of the care team to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
- Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and respect.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families.
- Accurately document patient encounters, including histories, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions, in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care, including patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Provide discharge instructions and recommendations for follow-up care.
- Actively supports efforts to achieve organizational goals and to produce better outcomes. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and practice of environmental and clinical standards. Accepts accountability for following all safety policies, supporting all safety initiatives, identifying and reporting opportunities for improving safety.
- Complies with PVH code of conduct.
- Attendance at Hospital assigned committee meetings as determined by the E.D. Medical Director. Assure the Program’s compliance to Medicare certification requirements, State licensing rules and other regulatory risk management standards.
Quality Improvement
Actively participates in the Hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program, supports and implements Department-specific Quality improvement initiatives and projects, recommends process improvement as appropriate, reports any quality issues in service delivery and consistently commits to a focus on quality improvement and organizational excellence.
Emergency Preparedness
As an employee of Penobscot Valley Hospital, the position has an inherent role to care for our community members when in need. The incumbent will be expected to participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and drills as requested. When called upon during a real-life disaster/emergency event, the incumbent will be expected to participate in the Hospital’s response to this event, within the scope of professional and personal ability to do so.
Requirements
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
PVH employment application required. Job offer contingent upon background check and pre-employment physical.
CREDENTIALS:
Education:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of a residency program in Emergency Medicine.
Licensure/Certification:
- Valid medical license to practice in the state of Maine.
- Board certification or eligibility in Emergency Medicine.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.
Experience:
- Experience working in emergency medicine or acute care settings is required.
Skills:
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple patients simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Ability to perform emergency procedures and interventions.
