Summary of Job Duties:
The Physician Assistant (PA) for Cardiothoracic Surgeon will serve as the first assistant in the operating room, respond to pages, and provide on-call coverage as required. The PA must possess a high level of expertise to perform assessments, diagnosis, and treatment of actual or potential patient problems, along with the skills for ongoing clinical management.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from a nationally accredited PA program.
- Physician Assistant license/certification or eligible to apply.
- Must be eligible for prescriptive authority certificate.
Responsibilities:
Assessment of Health Status:
- Obtain pertinent health and medical history.
- Perform focused and comprehensive physical examinations.
- Identify health risks and needs, updating and recording changes in health status.
- Assess mental and functional status of patients.
Diagnosis:
- Formulate appropriate differential diagnoses based on history, physical examination, and clinical findings.
- Identify needs of individuals and families resulting from patient interviews and physical examinations.
Development of Care Plan:
- Develop an acceptable plan of care to maximize the patient's health potential.
- Order appropriate diagnostic tests.
- Identify and prescribe pharmacologic agents when necessary.
- Plan non-pharmacologic interventions as appropriate.
- Develop education plans for patients, families, or caregivers.
- Consult with physicians and other health professionals as needed.
Implementation of the Plan:
- Conduct and interpret diagnostic tests accurately.
- Assist in the operating room.
- Prescribe pharmacologic agents under prescriptive protocols.
- Provide relevant and timely patient and caregiver education.
- Make appropriate referrals to other health professionals.
- Participate in patient care conferences and utilize a team approach.
Documentation and Billing:
- Ensure appropriate documentation and billing notations for care provided.
