ResponsibilitiesThe essential function of this position is to provide hospice nursing and palliative care to terminally ill patients. The hospice nurse will ensure the highest level of care is provided to our patients as they transition to end-of- life care. Professionalism and compassion are essential to success in this role.
- Participates in assessment of patients and assists in the coordination, implementation and evaluation of care for patients and their families.
- Administers medications in accordance with policies and procedures and in compliance with federal and State regulations. Follows the 7 Rights of Medication administration.
- Provides emotional support and informal counseling to patients and families within the hospice philosophy.
- Provides education to patients and families on hospice philosophy, dying process, medications, treatment plans and documents conversation in EMR.
- Accurately completes the process for admissions, discharges and deaths.
- Provides direct supervision to nursing assistants, and volunteers.
- Demonstrates competency in the use of IV -Central & Peripheral lines, sub - cutaneous therapies, IM injections, PICCs, PORTS and PCA pumps. Demonstrates competency in ostomy, drains, catheters and wound care. Demonstrates competency in trach care. Competent in the ability to assess, implement and evaluate respiratory issues. Demonstrates competency with G-Tubes and NG Tubes.
- Responsible for accurate documentation of medical records according to established guidelines

Requirements• RN licensure in the State of Maryland
• Current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
• Prior experience in hospice required
• Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) a plus
