Job Summary
Seeking a highly engaged advanced practice provider to join the advanced heart failure/transplant group within the cardiovascular specialty division, including responsibilities in both outpatient and inpatient settings. This position will be required to order medications and procedures within their scope of practice.
Position will include an onboarding process. It is anticipated that the candidate will function with greater attending oversight initially, but practice with increasing independence with accrued experience.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Assess the physical condition of assigned patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.
- Formulates the medical plan based on patient’s condition.
- Consults with other providers as needed regarding patient health care plans and treatment.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient’s health care needs.
- Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
- Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
- Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
- Participates in quality improvement activities.
- Counsel patients, families, and significant others about health and illness and promote health maintenance.
- Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.
- Participates in continuing medical education activities.
- Assists in the collection of data for research projects.

- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
- Demonstrate clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area.
- Demonstrate leadership, teaching, research, and communication skills.
- Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Current licensure to practice as a Physician’s Assistant from the State of Utah.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
- Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
