Job Summary:
Patient care in the Division of General Surgery, Comprehensive Weight Management Program. The Advanced Practice Clinician (physician assistant/nurse practitioner) role in the Comprehensive Weight Management Program provides care to patients in a University Health Sciences clinic. Individual will provide outpatient care for medically complex patients with obesity and obesity-related conditions. We seek a patient-focused, compassionate, self-motivated provider with excellent communication skills who has the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Our APCs are valued members of our teams and work collaboratively with physicians as well as independently. The Comprehensive Weight Management Program is a multi-disciplinary program that currently consists of physicians, APCs, dietitians, and an exercise physiologist along with collaboration with other specialists.
This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on-campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the work site if they are healthy and without COVID-19 symptoms.
Responsibilities:
- Independent outpatient clinic 4 days/week, 1 administrative day
- Provide dietary and lifestyle education to promote weight loss
- Prescribing FDA approved medications for the treatment of obesity according to state and federal guidelines
- Provide appropriate treatment and care for patients with obesity-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart failure, hypertension, fatty liver disease, etc.
- Providing appropriate care for bariatric surgery patients in the pre- and post-op period
- Treatment of vitamin and nutrient deficiencies
- Respond to outpatient messages and telephone calls
- Obtaining and reviewing patient’s medical history
- Conducting physical examinations
- Ordering and reviewing laboratory studies as well as diagnostic procedures
- Reviewing patients’ progress and managing patient care accordingly
- Maintaining all required documentation for patient care
- Providing training to clinical and non-clinical staff as needed
- Participating in team meetings, education conferences, special projects as required
- Assist in the collection for research projects
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- Current licensure to practice as a Physician’s Assistant from the State of Utah.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
- Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
