POSITION SUMMARY:
The Supervisor, Laboratory Medicine provides daily supervisory oversight of the assigned laboratory department and is accountable to all its functions, processes, regulatory requirements, and operations. Supports Health First's Manager, Laboratory Medicine & Pathology on execution of Health First's Mission and Vision. Provides frontline leadership of daily lab operations to assigned department.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Supervises daily operations of the laboratory, consistent with the mission & vision of Health First Inc. The general supervisor is assigned to one or more of the following laboratory departments: general core lab, microbiology, blood bank.
- Supports the laboratory manager and HF lab leadership team, accountable to all accreditation agencies ensuring the laboratory's successful compliance with its regulatory requirements (CAP, TJC, FL State, AABB, OSHA, etc.)
- Maintains a safe work environment for laboratory staff, as outlined by various accreditation agencies.
- Organizes and oversees departmental work schedule. Ensures 24/7 coverage of the department.
- Oversees daily quality control operations and aligns department with HF laboratory's QA program.
- Solicits feedback from front line staff, consistently implements process improvement changes based on feedback received.
- Develops collaborative relationships with inter-professional departments and ongoing partnership with other supervisors and other members of Health First leadership team to ensure organization's goals are achieved.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact productively and effectively with associates, leaders, clinicians, staff, and customers.
- Shows commitment to culture 'Continuous Quality Improvement' through incorporation of evidenced based laboratory medicine, benchmarking, and implementation of recommended guidelines.
- Supervises resources allotted to assigned laboratory department.
- Serves and performs all functions of a CLIA general supervisor for the laboratory in all sections of responsibility.
- Engages laboratory associates with constant and proactive communication of departmental goals, wins, ongoing projects, and changes within the Health First Laboratory via staff meetings, huddles, emails, rounding and other forms of communication.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical/Clinical Lab Science, or any related field, as outlined by CLIA.
- Licensure: Medical Technologist by State of Florida and in accordance with CLIA.
- Work Experience: Two years of applicable experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Strong skills in time management, human relations, organizational communication, troubleshooting, computer, knowledge of quality assurance and quality control procedures, and college-level math skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Master's Degree (MS, MBA, MHA, MPH or equivalent).
- Licensure: Lab Supervisor's license by State of FL, Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP.
- Certification: Specialist Certification by ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) in:
- Chemistry
- Blood Bank
- Hematology
- Microbiology
- Work Experience: Prior experience supervising hospital laboratories, experience in outpatient laboratory operations.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to endure >8-hour workday in periods of high demand.
- Pass color blindness test, visual acuity, and manual dexterity to perform clinical/technical tasks.
- The majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, stooping.
- Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
- Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
- May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
- Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote.
- May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
