The Dermatology Chief Physician (Section Chief) reports to the Chief of the Medicine Service (Chief of Medicine). This role encompasses a combination of administrative, clinical, research, and educational responsibilities. The Section Chief is the primary supervisor of the Dermatology Section and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions of the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes. Candidates must qualify for academic appointment at the affiliate university.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved institution.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
- Board Certified/Board Eligible.
Major Duties Include:
- Providing oversight and management of the Dermatology Section, including day-to-day clinical operations.
- Ensuring Fellowship Program, Internal Medicine Residency, and Medical Student Programs are adequately supervised.
- Integrating the core values and mission of the facility into care services.
- Participating in administrative and quality improvement activities.
- Assisting in policy development and compliance with local and national standards.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Performing consultative histories and physical examinations.
- Implementing timely and appropriate therapy.
- Supervising diagnosis and therapy for inpatients and outpatients.
- Providing timely and courteous service to all Veterans seeking care.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Participating in strategic planning for the Medicine Service.
- Attending outpatient clinic management meetings and other committees as needed.
- Supporting VHA and all Medicine Service directives.
Educational Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with other physicians to ensure proper education of medical students and residents.
- Maintaining Continuing Medical Education (CME) and State Medical License.
