Scope of Job
Work closely with primary care physicians, other providers, and staff to develop and implement treatment plans with specific focus on behavioral interventions and be part of the research and evaluation team.
Description of Duties
- Performance of targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem.
- Timely and succinct feedback to Primary Care Physicians regarding consultation findings and recommendations.
- Concise documentation in the patient’s medical record.
- Triaging and referring patients to specialty mental health care when appropriate.
- Formulation of behavioral health interventions appropriate to the primary care setting, and assisting with implementation of treatment plans.
- Developing, teaching, and/or providing oversight for classes that promote education and skill-building to enhance psychological and physical health.
- Providing ongoing consultation services for a subset of patients who require ongoing monitoring and follow-up (i.e., continuity consultations).
- Sharing knowledge with other team members and patients, both formally (in-services, consult responses) and informally (hallway conversations).
- Working as a primary care team member to develop specific clinical pathways or best practice programs for targeted patient groups (e.g., patients with acute stress symptoms and PTSD, obesity, diabetes, etc.).
- Becomes familiar with electronic health records, and appropriate coding skills for billing purposes.
- Other duties as related to the scope of the job.
Required Education
- Master’s degree, PsyD or PhD in a mental health related field (Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling psychology, clinical social work, clinical psychology) from an accredited University.
Preferred Education
Master’s degree or higher degree with a license to practice.
Licenses/Certifications
Full clinical licensure to practice in Texas, such as LCSW, LMFT, LPC, CP or associate of any of these licenses.
Required Experience
Some experience obtained related to the duties performed. This experience can include training during coursework in goal-oriented behavioral therapies or experience in related medical settings.
Preferred Experience
Experience working in medical/primary care settings. Previous clinical work experience in terms of clients/patients served, type of clinical issues applicant has served (anxiety, depression, addiction, couples, etc.), samples of documentation skills (clinical notes). Interested in and/or have experience with brief interventions, team-based care, a wide variety of psychiatric, substance abuse, and behavioral medicine problems, and diverse populations.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment (Computer, electronic medical records, laptop).
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Need to be able to work in an outpatient primary care setting. Some travel and weekend work is required.
Other
Good interpersonal skills that will effectively function for a primary care team member providing brief 15- to 30-minute interventions for a wide variety of behavioral issues in patients of all ages.
