The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for the coordination and provision of the appropriate support functions for anesthesiologists in all clinical practice settings throughout the hospital that utilize the services of an anesthesiologist. Qualifications
6 months experience in the surgery department preferred * 6 months of organ transplant experience preferred * Must be able to communicate effectively in English * Graduate of an accredited Anesthesia Technician program * Cer. A.T.T.
Responsibilities
The Anesthesia Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: * Prepares, maintains and stores anesthesia machines and equipment in the areas where anesthesia is delivered; transports machines as needed * Stocks the anesthesia machines with drugs/drug trays that are supplied by pharmacy, materials, and supplies; stocks anesthesia carts * Provides for the cleaning and/or decontamination of the anesthesia machine, equipment, and supplies * Ensures appropriate processing of reusable items * Makes continuous rounds during assigned shift to provide assistance to the anesthesiologists and to the nursing staff in the management of patient care * Prepares invasive lines used by anesthesiologist * Performs Point of Care testing * Rotates Organ Transplant call * May retrieve and transport medications The Anesthesia Technician reports to the Clinical Director Surgical Services. This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. High exposure to hazardous risks and contaminants, including potential for exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, radiology and fluoroscopy equipment, needle sticks, splashes, chemicals, cleaning solvents, hexacholorophate, betadine, sharps, and wet floors. Temperatures may vary in the procedure environment; prolonged standing on hard floors; exposed to a variety of interruptions; exposed to a variety of odors. May be required to work overtime, late shifts, weekends, and take call. Potential for bodily injury related to lifting, pushing, and pulling as well as incidents of workplace violence. Hazards will be minimized if standard safety procedures are followed.
