Overview
Functions in accordance with the Iowa Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses (Iowa Administrative Code 655, Chapter 6, & 6.2) and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice (ANA, 2010). Collaborates with physicians and other health care workers to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while maintaining standards for professional nursing practice.

Responsibilities
Midwife Services:
- Answers questions and provides teaching as appropriate to scope and licensure or as directed by provider to patients and family members regarding health maintenance and medical illnesses.
- Documents appropriate information in the patient’s electronic chart. Completes patient forms and requests medical records/correspondence to be scanned into the electronic health record.
- Schedules referrals for patients with specialists or outpatient as requested by the provider. Completes appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing.
- Assists provider with patient examination, procedures, and emergencies.
- Provides and documents advice for home care of illness/condition conducting follow-up phone calls regarding patient’s health and progress as directed by provider.
- Performs diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures.
- Prepares and assists provider with patient examination, specimen collection, minor surgical procedures, and treatment of the patients, including administration of medication under direct supervision of the provider as appropriate to scope and licensure.
- Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents, and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
- Thoroughly understands testing (lab and procedures) values and relationship to patient status with accountability to take next steps as directed, and as appropriate to scope and licensure.
- Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
- Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.
Perinatal Center:

Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
- Current active Iowa License to practice as a RN.
- Must take a basic Electronic Fetal Monitoring course within 6 months of hire with ongoing annual strip review.
- 1 year Maternity or OB office experience required.
- Previous clinical experience in women services and Labor/Delivery required.
- Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
- Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
