Are you enthusiastic about fostering a culture of community, diversity, and inclusion, and committed to helping students and staff tackle equity issues that affect student learning? Do you have a passion for coaching, providing professional development to other educators to expand social and cultural understanding to enhance outcomes for traditionally underserved populations? If you answered “yes” to these questions, consider becoming an equity lead in one of MCPS's four communities. Montgomery County Public Schools is seeking internal applicants to fill 6 positions available at the Middle and High School levels.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Guided by the Office of Equity and Diversity, the Equity Lead will involve school staff and students in initiatives aimed at enhancing outcomes for traditionally underserved populations. They will offer coaching, professional development, and technical support to administrators, teachers, and support staff. Additionally, the Equity Lead will promote social and cultural awareness within MCPS communities through diverse learning activities for students and staff.
DUTIES/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Co-creates and facilitates safe spaces to foster open dialogue among staff and students.
- Serves as a liaison to student groups within the school.
- Builds strong relationships with students, staff, and community.
- Acts as a liaison between the MCPS school community and local organizations.
- Provides regular updates to the Office of Equity and Diversity.
- Collaborates with the building administrator and the Office of Equity and Diversity to offer professional learning opportunities for staff and students.
- Develops strategies to collectively address and discuss solutions to equity issues within the school community.
- Evaluates and designs meaningful youth engagement activities to promote more equitable and inclusive outcomes for all students.
- Attend monthly meetings with Office of Equity and Diversity staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold a current Virginia teaching license.
- Must be a current Montgomery County Public School teacher.
- Have knowledge of building culturally competent learning environments.
- Experience in providing professional development and coaching for staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience supporting students and staff at the Middle School or High School levels.
- Demonstrates an understanding of helping individuals achieve their maximum potential through equitable policies, practices, and procedures.
PAY RATE: $625/year
FLSA: Exempt
